Economy, Trump Luring Black Voters from Biden

Pennsylvania is a must-win state for President Joe Biden, right now, however, he’s in serious trouble, as Black voters are supporting former President Trump in record fashion.

There is evidence that a segment of Black voters in Pennsylvania, as well as nationally, is becoming more conservative. And, while Black voters remainoverwhelmingly in the Democratic Party camp, the shiftaway from the Democratic Party has been noticeable, especially among certain demographics within the Black community.

In the 2022 elections, 88% of Black voters supported Democratic candidates, down from 91% in 2020. This drop is more pronounced among younger Black voters, Black men, and those without a college degree.

The drop in support for Biden is due largely to the poor economy, where Black Americans have been hit particularly hard. While inflation is in decline, it is falling from historic highs, and the economic challenges of recent years, including inflation, have disproportionately affected Black communities.

Additionally, there is a growing appeal of the Republican Party's economic policies among Black voters, particularly those who are working-class and non-college-educated.

Then there is the appeal of Donald Trump himself. His blunt and straightforward style has resonated with some Black voters, particularly younger Black men who appreciate his forthrightness and perceived authenticity.

While these shifts indicate a trend towards more conservative views among some Black voters, the majority still identify with and support the Democratic Party.  But a recent FOX News poll found 27% of likely Black voters were supporting Trump.  And, in swing states like Pennsylvania, where polls find Black support for Trump more than doubled at 15%, the shift couldeasily change the outcome on November 5.
