Polls indicate a close race between Trump and President Joe Biden. Trump maintains strong support within the Republican base, leading in many GOP primary polls, according to RealClearPolling.
But more importantly, the Supreme Court’s ruling on the scope of presidential immunity vindicated the former President and could improve Trump's standing among undecided voters or those skeptical of the charges against him. It could also help to restore confidence among Republican voters who might be concerned about the viability of his candidacy due to his legal troubles.
When news broke on the Supreme Court’s ruling Trump posted on Truth Social:
TOTAL EXONERATION! It is clear that the Supreme Court’s Brilliantly Written and Historic Decision ENDS all of Crooked Joe Biden’s Witch Hunts against me, including the WHITE HOUSE AND DOJ INSPIRED CIVIL HOAXES in New York. All of these Unfair Charges represent the WORST level of Election Interference ever seen in our Country’s long and storied History. It must be understood, that I was Totally and Completely Innocent from the beginning of this Giant and Highly Illegal Scam, long before the Supreme Court’s Decision was released. The impact of the Immunity Ruling is a loud and clear signal for Justice in the United States. I AM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!
While former President Trump gains a new momentum, circumstances for the Biden administration continue to worsen. NBC reported,
“On Tuesday, Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas became the first Democrat in Congress to call on Biden to withdraw from the race, and Democratic governors have huddled to discuss the party's path forward. Biden is holding a video call with some governors Wednesday to address growing concerns.”
This could be in response to voters’ perception of President Biden’s job performance. Rasmussen’s daily presidential tracking found that of likely voters, 26% strongly approve of the job Biden while 47% strongly disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -21.
As calls for President Biden to step aside increase, Democrats have found themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place as election day looms merely 4 months out.
